The State Russian Museum will showcase paintings by domestic avant-garde masters at an exhibition held in the Chengdu Museum of Art, the capital of Sichuan Province. As reported by the Russian Museum's press service, the exhibition will open on December 29.

"As part of Russian-Chinese cooperation and joint cultural programs between Russia and China, the exhibition 'Dawn of the Century: Avant-Garde Art from the Collection of the State Russian Museum' will open. The Russian Museum has already presented the exhibition in the cities of Yanzhou and Hanzhou in 2024. The exhibition has attracted immense public interest. Now, the masterpieces of Russian avant-garde from the Russian Museum's collection will be shown to the residents and guests of Chengdu," the statement reads.

The exhibition includes 62 works by prominent Russian avant-garde masters such as Kazimir Malevich, including his "Self-Portrait" and "Red Square," Marc Chagall, including his famous painting "Walk," as well as Pavel Filonov and Wassily Kandinsky from the Russian Museum's collection.

"Nine graphic works (an early self-portrait by Kazimir Malevich, six works by Marc Chagall dedicated to the First World War, and two abstract watercolors by Wassily Kandinsky) are exclusively provided by the Russian Museum for display only in Chengdu," the press service noted.

Each artist's works presented at the exhibition will be accompanied by films about them, prepared by the Russian Museum. According to museum representatives, this is the first-ever presentation of this unique artistic movement that emerged in Russia during the first two decades of the 20th century.

The exhibition will run until March 30, 2025.
