The founder and managing partner of New Yorker Clothing Stores, Friedrich Knapp, passed away at the age of 73. Knapp, who built a fashion empire with over 1,200 stores in 47 countries, died on the island of Sylt after a long illness. He had been seriously ill for about a year. Knapp's bold and visionary actions helped make New Yorker one of the leading fashion companies globally. The company currently employs around 23,000 people.
